Alison Bastian has been hired to be the Director of the St Charles Arts Council. Incoming Board President Peggy Sue Seehafer said, “The St Charles Arts Council is very pleased to announce the addition of Alison Bastian as our new Director. I am excited to have such a talented and knowledgeable person join us in our mission of promoting the arts in our community.”
Elizabeth Bellaver, Past President and one of the Founders of the SCAC said, “Hiring our first-ever Director is a very big step forward for us, and we hoped to find a good fit for the job. But we had so many excellent people respond to our search – way beyond the simple “good fit” qualification. Not only more candidates than we expected, but so many qualified and interesting people with a wide variety of backgrounds and skills in business, education, and the arts. Alison is an outstanding person with an absolutely amazing resume.”
Ms. Bastian received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Fine Arts from Suffolk University (Boston, MA); and a Masters of Arts in Art History, and a Museum Studies Certificate from Northern Illinois University. She has worked for the Field Museum as their Anthropology Collections Manager and the Lead Educator at the Downers Grove Museum. In addition to her museum and art history degrees and experience, she is a visual artist who has been a Teaching Artist at the Hyde Park Art Center, an Assistant Teacher at Marwen (Chicago’s Free Art School for Underserved Youth), and a Resident Artist and Gallery Volunteer at Water Street Studios.
Ms. Bastian said, “It is with great enthusiasm that I join the St Charles Arts Council as the new Director. I am excited by the opportunity to grow and foster the community’s passion for the arts, and I look forward to working with community members, local businesses, and other area arts organizations to make the arts more accessible and to create a more vibrant St. Charles and Fox River Valley.”
