CALL FOR ARTISTS 2021 St. Charles Arts Council Student Art Show
Note: State mandated Covid 19 safety protocols must be followed on the dates listed below and while the show is on display in the show venue (including masking, distancing and appointments).
January 30, 2021 - The St Charles Arts Council (St. Charles, IL), announces their 2021 Student Art Show to be held at 116 Gallery in Mixology Spa Salon in Downtown St. Charles. The show will feature student artwork (both K-12 students and currently enrolled undergraduate students) from the surrounding St. Charles area. The show will run from Saturday, April 17 through Sunday, May 16, 2021. This show is presented in partnership with the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). SCAC acknowledges and thanks Mixology Salon Spa for providing display space for the 2021 Student Show and the veterans groups for their financial support.
ENTRIES: 2D and 3D entries for the Student Show can be in any medium or style except videos, which are not eligible for this show. Work must be ORIGINAL in concept and execution and follow the “Submission Requirements for Artwork” (see details below).
FORMAT: Juried Show
Entry fee: there is no entry fee for the student art show
Administrative fee: SCAC will not receive any administrative fees for artwork is sold during the student art show
ELIGIBILITY:
Students in grades K-12 are eligible to submit work, including home-schooled students, remote learning students, hybrid learning students and those enrolled in extracurricular arts programs
Currently enrolled undergraduate students are eligible to submit work
Space is limited. All work will be juried. There is no guarantee that submissions will be accepted for this show
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR ARTWORK:
SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS 5:00 PM ON FRIDAY, MARCH 12, 2021
Artists must submit their artwork electronically in jpg format – 5MB maximum to artistliaison@StCharlesArtsCouncil.org. There is NO FORM to fill out. The following information MUST be included in your email to the St. Charles Arts Council:
Student artist’s information (student’s name, address, school student is currently enrolled in, student age and grade, and contact email and contact phone number with area code of student or parent).
Up to THREE (3) images of ORIGINAL artwork in jpg format. Artists may submit 2 views of 3D work (second view does not count toward the 3 submission limit). See “Image Requirements” below and “EXHIBITION DETAILS”.
Include the following information for each piece of artwork submitted:
Title
Dimensions (list dimensions of unframed 2D work in inches (list height x width); for 3D work, also include depth of work)
Medium (art materials & process used to create artwork. Examples: ink drawing or acrylic painting)
Selling price (if Not for Sale, mark as NFS)
Each 3D work must be free standing or placed on pedestal or stand provided by the artist
IMAGE REQUIREMENTS: All work must be original in concept and execution (images may not be copied from any source). Submissions must not be photocopies or reproductions of artist’s actual artwork.
Accepted artwork must follow submission requirements and be properly prepared for display to be included in the show.
IMPORTANT DATES:
IMAGES MUST BE SUBMITTED IN JPG FORMAT ELECTRONICALLY BY 5 PM, Friday, March 12,2021 .
Artists will be notified by Tuesday, March 30 concerning the submission status of their artwork.
Drop off your work: Tuesday, April 13 (5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) You must reserve a drop off time in advance of the drop off date. You will receive information about drop off arrangements.
Gallery will be open: Saturday, April 17 thru Sunday, May 16, 2021
Artist reception: Saturday, May 15 from 5 – 7 pm (Reception may be virtual if an on-site reception is not possible or there are capacity limitations).
Pick up your artwork: Sunday, May 16 (4-5 p.m.) or Tuesday, May 18, 2020 (6 to 7 p.m.) You must reserve a pick up time in advance of the pick up date. You will receive information about pick up arrangements.
116 Gallery is located in the Mixology Salon Spa, 116 W. Main Street, St. Charles IL 60174.
All Show participants and related parties agree to hold harmless St. Charles Arts Council and Mixology Salon Spa during the duration of the show (April 13 – May 16, 2021).
EXHIBITION DETAILS:
All artwork must be ready to hang/install or display. An information sheet called “Directions for Preparing Artwork for the Show” will be sent to artists whose work has been accepted. Artists are responsible for providing framing for their accepted work.
2D and 3D work that is NOT correctly prepared for installation in the gallery will NOT be accepted for the show. 2D work must have hangers and wire attached to the back of the work. Artists must provide pedestals or stands for 3D work that is not able to be displayed free standing on the floor.
Delivery and pick-up of the artwork will be the artist's responsibility. Artists with work accepted in the show must drop-off and pick up their work on the published dates and times. Artists will receive information about reserving a drop off and pick up time for accepted work. If you are not able to deliver and/or pick up the work in person, you may authorize your representative in writing to deliver and/or pick up your work on the prescribed dates and times. If these drop off requirements are not possible, do NOT enter work in the show. SCAC cannot accept or release work except as listed in this agreement for the published dates and times. SCAC does not have storage space for artwork or packing materials.
The sale price of your work includes 8% allocated for Illinois Sales tax. Artists are responsible for reporting to the state the sales tax was collected for their purchased work.
You will receive notification by March 30 from the Artist Liaison confirming if your work is accepted for the show. You will receive an ARTIST AGREEMENT which must be signed, completed and brought with your accepted artwork to the gallery. You will also receive the sheet titled “Directions for Preparing Artwork for the Show” with more details about work preparation. Preparation requirements must be followed to have artwork included in the show.
PROMOTION: Information about the 2021 SCAC Student Art Show in Gallery 116 will be published by the SCAC and Event Partners. Promotion will utilize social and traditional media.
