This workshop will discuss the benefits of both studio and plein air painting, but will be a studio class. We will work from provided images. You will learn how to use photos to create high quality studio paintings. I will also discuss choosing the right scene, editing and simplifying what you see and the importance of good drawing. I will demonstrate how to capture the effects of light and shadow, with controlled values and beautiful color. We will explore all the wonderful qualities and techniques of painting with watercolor. I believe in teaching and reinforcing the fundamentals, so all levels of experience are welcome.

Materials

Students need to provide:

1. 5-6 pieces of watercolor paper, 100% cotton rough or cold press

2. watercolor paints

3. palette

4. watercolor brushes

5. tape

6. board to support paper

7. Instructor will supply reference materials
